Can we go a week without Social Security Administration changing its tune – even a little? Apparently not.

**Besides the** [**COLA & earnings changes**](https://www.smartseniordaily.com/where-did-my-social-security-raise-go/) we recently wrote about, there's also to other SSA-related things anyone who gets a Social Security check should know about.

## 1\. The End of "Local" Service

Beginning March 7, the SSA transitioned to a **National Workload System**.

- **The Old Way:** If you called or visited your local office, your case was handled by staff in that specific building.
- **The New Way:** Claims and appointments are now routed to a national pool. This means when you call, you might be talking to an agent in Oregon or Florida, regardless of where you live.
- **The Goal:** To reduce the massive backlogs and wait times by distributing the work to any available staff member across the country.

[SSA says customer service is improving — and an audit backs it upA new Inspector General report says wait times are down, more calls are answered, and online access is up — but what does that really mean for seniors?![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d9/1a/d91a71e8-ed81-4ec8-8028-ec14ba129b35/content/images/icon/SSD-FavIcon1-328.png)Smart Senior DailySmart Senior Daily Staff![](https://storage.ghost.io/c/d9/1a/d91a71e8-ed81-4ec8-8028-ec14ba129b35/content/images/thumbnail/SSA-BetterService-1.png)](https://www.smartseniordaily.com/ssa-says-customer-service-is-improving-and-an-audit-backs-it-up/)

## 2\. March Payment Schedule

If you’re waiting for your March check (which includes that 2.8% boost), here is the remaining schedule for this month:

- **March 11:** Birthdays 1st–10th.
- **March 18:** Birthdays 11th–20th.
- **March 25:** Birthdays 21st–31st.

## What you should do:

Since the new national system might have some "day one" glitches, experts recommend using the **My Social Security** online portal for routine tasks (like getting a benefit letter or changing your address) to avoid potentially long hold times on the national phone lines this week.
