UPDATE: The Grandparent's Guide to Amazon's 2026 Top Toys List

Which of these will actually get you down on the floor playing with the grandkids?

If you think it's early to be shopping for the grandkids' Christmas toys, think again. The hottest toys get snatched up first, so we thought you'd like a head start.

Every fall, Amazon's toy team publishes its 2026 Top 100+ Toys list, and every fall, grandparents everywhere squint at it and wonder what half of these things are. Jelly Blox? Puppetronic? Fair questions.

Here's the good news: buried among the slime hauls and trading card boxes are plenty of toys you'll recognize, a few you can play right alongside the kids, and one or two you may want to keep for yourself. We sorted the list the way a grandparent would.

First, Call the Parents

Before you click anything, check in with Mom and Dad. They know what's already in the toy closet, what the house rules are on screens and noise, and whether that 18-inch giggling Elmo will be welcomed or quietly "lost" by February.

Even better, ask them to set up an Amazon Wish List for the kids. It takes the guesswork out, keeps aunts and uncles from buying the same gift, and lets you see what's already been claimed.

The Ones You'll Recognize

Some classics never really leave. This year's list has several that should feel familiar.

Toys That Put You in the Game

The best gift a grandparent gives (or gets) is usually time. These picks are built for two or more players, which means you're part of the fun, not just the person who paid for it.

By the way, Rober has a whole line of hands-on, educational toys under his CrunchLabs brand. You can browse them here.

Stocking Stuffers Under $15

Counting your nickels and dimes this year? Amazon's list includes a whole section of toys under $15. A few that stood out:

One for You

If you're a grandparent who likes building things too, the list's "Time to Unplug" section includes the LEGO Botanicals Woodland Mushrooms set (around $80), which LEGO labels as a set for adults. It's a relaxing build, it looks nice on a shelf, and nobody needs to know it was your idea. Or make it a joint project with an older grandchild.

A Word of Caution on the Hottest Items

If this season is like recent ones, a few toys on this year's list will be in short supply. The Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box, for example, uses Amazon's "Request Invitation" system, where shoppers sign up for a chance to buy it.

When a toy is that hard to get, resellers and counterfeiters move in fast. Before you buy any high-demand item, this is a must: look for "Ships from and sold by Amazon" or the brand's own storefront on the product page.

If a third-party seller is asking double the list price, or the deal looks too good to be true, walk away. Sorting out a refund with a sketchy third-party seller is no picnic.

A Few Practical Checks

Look before you leap. Three quick checks so your gift lands the way you hope:

  • Read the age label. Many toys have small parts that aren't safe for children under 3.
  • Check for batteries. Interactive toys like Elmo and the FurReal tiger often need them. Toss a pack in the box so nobody's hunting on Christmas morning.
  • Think about where it's going. Shipping a $70 giant block tower across the country is easy. Fitting it in a small apartment may not be.

Prices and availability change quickly this time of year, so check the current price before you buy. You can browse the full Top 100+ Toys list here.

And whatever you pick, plan to stick around after it's unwrapped. That's the part they'll remember.
