You Can Now LISTEN to SSD Articles!

Any language, any speed, any voice, any time.

Another day, another advancement in technology – and this one is perfect for many Smart Senior Daily readers, too.

Sometimes, reading an entire article isn't something you want to do. Now, thanks to Google's new version of its Chrome browser, you can get the whole article by listening to it. Yes, you can "listen" to any page of our website that you want. You pick the voice you like (male, female), the speed/inflection of the voice, the language, etc. And, if vision is an issue, "Reader" mode will allow you to see the text of the page larger.

Click on the video below and we'll walk you through the steps in real time, then give you point-by-point directions afterward.

Here's the step-by-step instructions

To enable Reader Mode, go to any page on SmartSeniorDaily.com, click the More menu (three dots) in the top-right, select More tools, and then Reading mode. You can then customize the font, text size, color theme, and spacing. How to use Reading mode

  1. Open Chrome on your computer.
  2. Navigate to a webpage with an article you want to read.
  3. Click the More menu (the three vertical dots) in the top-right corner.
  4. Select More tools.
  5. Click Reading mode. A side panel will appear with a simplified version of the text.

Customize your reading experience

  • Font and size: Select Font or Font size from the Reading mode toolbar to make adjustments.
  • Color theme: Click Color theme to change the background color (e.g., from light to dark).
  • Spacing: Use Line spacing and Letter spacing to adjust the space between lines and letters, respectively.
  • Read aloud: Use the Play button to have the text read aloud to you.
  • Side panel width: You can adjust the width of the side panel to make Reading mode take up more of your screen.

On Android

  • For the mobile version, you may need to download a separate app from the Google Play Store to use a similar feature.

If you don't see the option

  • Make sure your Chrome browser is updated to the latest version, as Reader Mode was recently added as a stable feature, notes this YouTube video.
